<image:caption>Parallel Version Series: Los Angeles (with extended sight lines), 2013, wall drawing with snaplines and acrylic paint 11 x 30 feet. Installation view at LA Louver Gallery exterior project by Kim Schoenstadt. This series of work is based on unrealized architecture from Los Angeles. I’ve lived in Los Angeles for nearly 20 years and have seen lots where buildings are built, demolished and a new building goes up. Coming from Chicago where this doesn’t happen that often this idea of architectural impermanence became interesting. In a town where props and set design became an industry it seemed to me the relationship to architecture was more malleable.</image:caption>

Photo: Ruben Diaz The inspirations for our public art project at the Mid-Valley Intergenerational Center are the community of Panorama City and it’s history, landscape and architecture. Our goal is an artwork that compliments the building and enlivens the experience of its users. We strive to create work that is playful and engaging both intellectually and visually. The following are included in the final design: -Details from Busch Gardens theme park 1966 -Kaiser Permanente Panorama City Hospital, Designed by Clarence Mayhew with Hal Thiederman, Dr. Sidney R. Garfield (medical consultant), 1962, decommissioned 2008, demolished 2016 -Sign advertising the new development of Panorama City -Carnation Milk research lab for Van Nuys, 1952/3 -Kaiser-Burns home from the original Panorama City development -Walnut Grove -Guernsey cow -Jackrabbit -Quail -Valley Oak Tree leaves and flowers -Graphics of soil and irrigation conditions of the area from the 1930’s -Coffee Dan’s, W. Krisel Architect, 1957 -Phil Ahn’s Moongate Restaurant, 1954 -Sign at the boarder between Panorama City and Van Nuys -Van Nuys Savings, Panorama City, W.Sarmiento, Architect, 1957 These images are then combined to create the final piece with colors that are culled from the sky and landscape of Southern California.</image:caption>
